Field Turf in the News, on Campus, and at the Pro Level
Field turf is scoring wins around the country right now, from major league baseball to schools here in the SF Bay Area. The decision to install artificial turf for campuses and synthetic turf for stadiums is easy when the benefits include savings on water and maintenance. Sports turf is also durable and can handle heavy usage. Check out who has made the switch and why.
The latest industry news shows stadiums making the switch to field turf. In 2020, the Texas Rangers opened their new stadium, Globe Life Field. They selected synthetic grass as the playing surface and even revamped the stadium with new turf this year. The officials chose field turf based on two years of research conducted by Auburn University. The research targeted player safety, team performance, and fan experience to ensure that they meet the club’s standards. The field turf also enables the stadium to conserve water and lower maintenance costs.
The football field at Antioch’s Deer Valley High School suffered from maintenance problems and bad drainage. A student remarked that “when it rained, there would be secret potholes and stuff, so we’d be scared to step in (the potholes) in practice.” Luckily this year, the football stadium received a makeover with field turf! Now, they have an arena which drains quickly and does not require high maintenance. The June graduation ceremony was the first event to take place on the newly installed turf. Additionally, the Deer Valley Wolverines’ summer camp will start practice on their artificial grass and lead the way for an exciting football season!
James Lick Middle School in San Francisco also opted for artificial turf when they transformed their soccer field last year. Practice used to take place on asphalt which “led to increased injuries and decreased participation.” With field turf, the students play on a safer surface and this in turn encourages more engagement.
Sports lawns require water and regular maintenance to keep fields in working condition. When you switch to field turf, your water costs drop, and you save money on maintenance. Artificial turf also stands up to more wear and tear than live grass. It will not rub down to dirt patches or bare spots where players can slip. Furthermore, synthetic grass provides quick drainage, which results in a less slippery playing ground with no puddles. Make the switch to field turf and start experiencing these benefits today!
