Fake Turf Improves Hotel Design

September 8, 2016

When designing a hotel, the outside is just as important as the inside. It doesn’t matter how nice the rooms are. If the lawn doesn’t look great, guests won’t be impressed. But grass lawns are hard to maintain. Upkeep and watering cost money, and weather can affect the landscaping design. That’s why many newer hotels are opting for fake turf instead. With fake turf, they can offer guests outdoor lounge areas that look great in any weather and stand the test of time. Making sure that real grass lawns always match the original design plan is no easy task. Fake turf, like the kind we stock at Watersavers Turf, will always serve the same purpose it did when it was first installed.

Synthetic Turf Allows for Outdoor Activities

When hotels install synthetic turf, they can make the most out of their property. Very often, a hotel lawn is less of a selling point and more of a cash drain. The lawn needs to look its best to attract customers. Because of this, constant, costly upkeep needs to be in the budget. A hotel might have only enough funds to keep a real grass lawn looking presentable. They won’t have the money to make it useful. With synthetic turf, though, they don’t have to worry about spending money on upkeep. Instead, they can provide areas for activities, like playing sports. Or, they can install an outdoor bar. With synthetic turf, a hotel can actually make money off of its lawn, instead of simply spending money on it.

Faux Grass Helps Revive Asbury Park

Springsteen made Asbury Park, NJ into a legend. That doesn’t mean he made it into a major travel spot. Luckily, in recent years, the city has made a comeback. New stores, businesses, and dining options are cropping up all over. One of them is The Asbury, a boutique hotel.

One of its key features is a faux grass roof deck. During the day, guests can play games up there. At night, it turns into an outdoor movie theater, with films projected onto an elevator tower.

This is just one of many ways in which the hotel is turning Asbury Park into a true resort city. But without faux grass, it wouldn’t have been possible. Maintaining any real grass lawn is a challenge. Maintaining one on a roof deck is even harder. But with faux grass, this part of the property can be used to bring in more business.

Artificial Grass Turns Manhattan Hotel into a Campground

At the Lexington Avenue W Hotel, the new “Extreme Wow Outdoor Glamping Suite” shows off a smart way to use artificial grass.

“Glamping,” also known as “glamour camping,” is about enjoying the peace of sleeping under the stars, without all the discomfort that comes along with it. This new suite is designed for people who want that perfect combo. It features an outdoor terrace with an artificial grass surface. Outdoor furniture allows guests to gather under the night sky. A decorative fire pit adds to the mood, and lights provide just the right amount of glow. There is also a yurt tent which offers guests a spot to sleep. Its material is made to block out enough of the late night city sounds to make getting to sleep easy.

Even if guests do opt to head back to the indoor section of the suite when night falls, just having the option to camp above Manhattan wouldn’t be possible without artificial grass. Rather than simply using this terrace in a typical way, hotel planners have found a way to make it into something that guests won’t find in many other places. If they tried a similar project with real grass, the upkeep costs would simply be too high.

How Artificial Turf Transforms Cities

Hotels aren’t the only places where artificial turf can help to draw business. In San Francisco, during the building of the Central Subway, Stockton Street was made into a pedestrian walkway using artificial turf. This was to ensure customers would still do their holiday shopping at its businesses during the construction. Now, there are plans to make it permanent.

Cities looking to offer visitors something new to experience in their shopping districts could use artificial turf to create these types of spaces. This would make a comfortable, traffic-free area, where guests can roam from shop to shop freely.

This is all happening because artificial turf makes creating outdoor spaces easy and affordable. That’s why we at Watersavers Turf offer faux grass to customers in the SF Bay Area, helping them bring their outdoor projects to life.
