Artificial Turf Keeps Kids’ Clothes Free of Grass Stains

October 20, 2016

When your kids play outside, they can get grass stains that are hard to get out of clothing. To be fair, though, your kids aren’t the only ones at risk. Your clothes may get stains as well while you are pulling up weeds from your lawn. Either way, the point is, they are tough to clean off. When you have an artificial turf lawn instead of real grass, you can get rid of this chore. Like a real lawn, artificial turf looks great and offers kids a fun spot to play. Unlike a real lawn, artificial turf doesn’t stain clothes. For that matter, it also doesn’t force you to set aside time for lawn care chores like pulling the weeds. Watersavers Turf makes life even easier by offering high-quality faux grass at seven San Francisco Bay Area locations.

Synthetic Turf Saves Your Wardrobe

Grass stains are hard to remove because they bond to fabric fibers by embedding into them. If you have a lawn and a family, at some point, kids will ruin a few pairs of jeans. With synthetic turf, you’ll never have to worry about that. Synthetic turf leaves behind no trace of itself. Your kids will be more than happy to play outside without you reminding them not stain their new school clothes. You, on the other hand, will be more than happy to cut down on lawn care costs and chores when you make the switch to synthetic turf.

Faux Grass Means Easy Cleaning

If you do find yourself trying to get out these stains, there are some things that might help you. It’s best not to use alkaline detergents, degreasers, or ammonia. These products can set the blemish in forever. Trying the one of the tips below may help. These do involve a few steps:

Tide Powder or Liquid Detergent

Tide contains enzymes and bleach which are sometimes helpful for these problems. Pour the detergent on the spot, rub it in and let stand for 10-15 minutes. Wash as usual and repeat if needed.

Rubbing Alcohol

This is good for removing the green color. Using a sponge wet the spot with isopropyl alcohol and let air dry. Rinse with cold water and work in liquid detergent. Rinse again with cold water and let air dry.

White Vinegar

Pre-treat with warm water. Rub plain white vinegar and rubbing alcohol into the stained area and wash.

Bleach with Hydrogen Peroxide

Use this combo on light colored clothing only. Mix ¼ cup bleach, ¼ cup peroxide, and ¾ cups cold water. Apply to the clothes and gently rub. Let sit for 30-60 minutes and then rinse, washing as usual.

Biz Detergent

Add enough water to cover the clothing in a large pot and bring to a boil. Carefully add one cup of Biz laundry detergent. Stir until dissolved and remove from stove. Put grass-stained clothing in the pot and let soak for about an hour, letting them cool completely. Take the clothes out and wash them.

Molasses or Karo Syrup

Put a few drops on the stain and rub in. Let sit for a few minutes and wash afterward.

Banana Oil

Sold in drug stores, it is also known as amyl acetate and can be helpful in removing these types of stains. Apply directly to the stain, gently rub and rinse with hot water. If the blemish does not go away, mix one cup cold water and two tablespoons of mild detergent with two tablespoons ammonia, and rub in gently.

Fake Lawn Fights Grass Stains the Best

Of course, if all of that sounds a little complex, there are other options. A fake lawn will save you the trouble of trying out the science experiments described above. It will also save you money on your water bill since fake grass doesn’t need the same kind upkeep as a regular lawn. It also stays in great shape in any weather. As such, your kids will always have a clean place to play.
